The Economist of May 28, 2009, has just published a review of my book, Leonard Bernstein: The Political Life of an American Musician.

Congratulations on a great review!

To quote from the last paragraph of the book review in THE ECONOMIST:

"The book’s greatest value, however, lies not simply in shedding new and more nuanced light on the story of “Our Lenny”, but in its consistent demonstration—in accordance with Bernstein’s own ideas—that any attempt to separate the musical sphere from the moral and political comes at an unconscionably high price."

Dear Mr Seldes
I write from an Italian publisher which is very interested in your book on Bernstein. We found your book very very interesting and we would love to translate it in Italian. I have written to the University of California Press to the Foreign Rights Dept but I imagine there is quite a heavy burocracy in a so big Publishing House: I did not receive any answer. Could you help me? Can I leave you my e-mail? Thank you!
